Emmayzing! is dazed and confused asked: I’ve been plagued with this for as long as I can remember, its gotten better over the last couple of years but I still get really freaked out about severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. There is a storm now and I’m freaking out…
I’d really appreciate some help.

I’m originally from Kansas, and the whole Dorthy/tornado jokes were everywhere. But for me, it was a natural occurrence. After every heavy storm came new growth, clean air, etc. I’ve heard that slowly confronting your fears helps. Have you tried SLOWLY just enjoying a simple rain? I guess it can be scary. Perhaps watching documentaries and seeing how/why mother nature does the things she does could help. Take precautions, but know that whats going on outside is a natural occurrence. Sometimes it can even be beautiful.
Well, you are not alone on feeling scared whenever it thunderstorms or there is a tornado because I am from Minnesota and we get plenty of thunderstorms up here in the spring, summer and fall but luckily never any tornados:) we have been in watches and warnings, but luckily it has never actually happened. I love thunderstorms(unless they are severe) and am terrified of tornados. So again you are not alone:) Try playing cards or a board game to get your mind off of the storm. Thats what I do anyway and it helps a ton just try doing that and listen to the sound of the rain hitting the windows and roof or watch the water drops on the windows thats also what I do and it helps a ton!! Good Luck hun:P
Im terrified of thunderstorms personally. They tense my whole body although i love watching them i’m 100% terrified. I get fast heartbeat and all. And terrified of tornadoes although im from montana we never get any.
